Local Search and Info USAKeeping up with recent changes in how to best complete submissions to IYP sites requires constant research to keep up with. It seems that on a frequent basis someone is partnering with another company, buying another company or sites are dropping out all together. If you're playing in the local search arena and submitting to various IYP sites, there's a recent change worth noting. If you've been submitting to YP.com using the form on the following page, https://signup.yp.com/ for a basic listing, they let you submit the listing, but the submission will never become live. They now receive all of their company listings through InfoUSA. InfoUSA is one of the primary data aggregators that feed various IYP sites. Since InfoUSA feeds many IYP sites and other local search engines such as Yahoo! Local and Google Local, adding your business to InfoUSA is a must. To add your business listing there are two methods:1. Online Method Set up an account using the main site at http://infousa.com/ or 2. Send an e-mail to InfoUSA at contentfeedback@infousa.com and include the following: Name of Business If the business is already listed and this is an update, include the business listing as it exists currently and then what information has changed. The benefit of sending an e-mail is that the listing will become live faster than the online method above. The Internet is increasing in popularity to help us gain back some of that precious time and allow us to complete a lot of those chores from our office and homes. More companies have turned to Internet Marketing to grab some of this new business. But where do they begin? Search Engine Marketing is a moving target for advertising and getting business. The businesses are not only competing locally but in some cases are competing globally when using the Internet for advertising. The best way to achieve and increase website rankings for a business is using Search Engine Marketing Firms that concentrate on just that. There are many rules and changes made by the Search Engines that must be monitored at all times. Most businesses do not have that kind of time or expertise to perform those SEO services. Find a company that specializes in Search Engine Marketing and let them do the work for you. You will gain more time to focus on your core business while gaining more business from the Internet. Michelle Smith November 28 Local Search Works For Small BusinessesWhat is it about the Internet that allows business owners and executives to think its all right for their employees college aged son to work on their business web site? Would you allow them to take over sales or marketing? Then why do so many companies out there think they can save a buck by hiring (for next to nothing) the kid next door to take over their web sites? What has that got to do with small businesses succeeding in local search? A great deal if I can manage to tie this idea together. Back in the old days of the Internet, less than 10 years ago...I had a small web design company that catered to small business owners. Because the business owner was confused about "all that high tech stuff", it was difficult to sell them on the merits of your proposal, which cost them a great deal more money than the kid next door. When you don't understand or have experience with something, you tend to make bad decisions or decisions that are based solely on the price. Back then business owners did not fully comprehend the power of the Internet, the opportunities it would create for all companies, large and small and so felt only an obligatory need to put that URL domain name to use - since they were talked into buying it. Today a lot has changed. Now local businesses understand the need to be connected with customers. How their business site lends credibility to their products and services. They even understand that it is an essential part of their business strategy. What they fail to understand is how to make it work for them. This is the part that ties in with the kid next door, so pay attention... Yellow Pages has always been a mainstay of local business owners. You had to have an ad or listing in the Yellow Pages to "be somebody". Today business owners are once again overlooking and assigning to the "kid next door" who grew up to be working for the online yellow pages company...their marketing and online sales. They realize that they need something, and in walks yellow pages or some lookalike, telling them that they can handle both their telephone listing as well as strategically place them in listings and ads online. And once again, the business owners, thinking this is all too confusing - spends their money where they believe it is most productive. Small business owners do not have a lot of money. I learned this lesson long ago. Online advertising is expensive and done improperly will chase a lot of small business owners away from online advertising. Top SEO Marketing, Inc. does not rely on Pay per click ads to help small business owners. If necessary we will handle their PPC needs, but more importantly what we do is research and look across all the available areas where a small business owner might profit and first place them where they have visibility locally - in the search engines. Where clicks do not mean dollars out of pocket every time... In other words - we utilize our expertise and experience before we would ever let our clients spend money needlessly. We navigate them through the confusion of local search marketing and optimize their web site to attract the type of visitors that are looking to buy. We take responsibility and deliver results.
November 12 Search Engine Marketing TodaySometimes it is important to remember that not every business owner recognizes what it is that the internet can do for them. Recently I had a meeting with a new client who was very comfortable and successful in business until the last several years. It wasn't until earlier this year when he found out that a competitor, who for years had done almost the same amount of revenue he had...seemed to be thriving during the time my client was losing momentum and he found out that this competitor had begun selling products online to consumers. To the tune of over 4 million dollars last year. That changed our clients mind about the importance of the internet.
Are you working for someone or have your own business but don't feel technically comfortable diving into the online business market? One of the best resources may be the younger more computer savvy employees. Spend time with them, ignore the screens whirling past your eyes and listen to what they have to say about how the internet can impact your business. We talk with companies all the time and realize that what seems basic to us, is quite foreign to our clients who rely on us to provide them with full service search engine optimization program that doesn't require them to be technically savvy or utilize resources that are spread too thin.
SEO professionals would do well to remember when talking to potential clients, to draw examples from traditional marketing or business in order to make it easier for clients to understand and to properly set expectations. One client taught me an important lesson, one that I will never forget. About four months into the campaign, I was going over the progress we were making - which was real but had yet to really show a sizeable impact. I showed him ranking reports, search analytics, web analytics, user / visitor data and explained what it all meant...while he sat there not saying a word. Finally I looked at him, waiting for him to say something. Finally he looked at me and said, "just tell me when you are going to make the phones start ringing." That is a lesson learned.
